Top Things to do in Budapest

Budapest is a beautiful city that is definitely worth putting on your travel bucket list! I couldn’t believe how beautiful it really was. There is also so many things to do, here are just a few of my top favourites if you are here for a long weekend.

1. Szechenyi Thermal Baths

A few days walking around Budapest can be pretty exhausting so spending the day soaking in the hot pools of Szechenyi baths is amazing. Szechenyi is one of the largest baths in Europe with 15 indoor baths and 3 outdoor pools. There are also 10 saunas/ steam rooms and massage treatments.  I had such a relaxing afternoon with friends here and if you are lucky then you might be there for one of their pool parties!

2. Danube River Cruise

You can do day or night cruise depending on what suits best, I did the night cruise which is really beautiful. You get to see Gellert Baths, the Parliament buildings, Chain Bridge and the National Theatre all lit up. I also got to have a glass of mulled wine or hot wine as they call it in Budapest! It is a lovely relaxing way to see the city and a different perspective to bus or on foot.

3. Fisherman’s Bastion

Built during the 19th century for the Hungarian Millennium celebrations, this mock bastion has pointed towers and turrets. It reminds me of Cinderella’s castle in Disney World! It has little cafes and restaurants close by to relax and enjoy the views.

4. Szimpla Kert Ruin Bar

This is a huge old bar of mismatched items and disused car. This bar is part of a type of bars called Ruin Bars. They were started around 2001 by a group of guys looking for cheap places to drink and they’re basically situated in abandoned venues from the Communist era. They are really cool places where art, dancing, socialising and having a drink are in the same space.

These are just a few of the things to do that I would recommend for a short stay, if you have any other suggestions then pop them below in the comments section. I’d love to hear them!
