Every year a GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association of Ireland) Club in co.Kerry Ireland hosts a walk called the Dingle Way Challenge. It’s a full days hike and it takes you around some of the most beautiful parts of Dingle and the surrounding areas.
I completed the challenge yesterday with family and friends and am currently writing this with my feet up! The route took us from Dingle via the pilgrim path to Murrioch. We had breakfast rolls at An Ghaeltacht GAA Club, then carried on the ancient path, walking through the valley, right under the Conor Pass and finishing in Cloghane. Our route was roughly 36km in total. If you are very fit and have trained well then you can do the Ultra route….which instead of doing the ancient path and Conor pass you climb Mount Brandon, descending via Sauce Creek and finally finishing at Cloghane. This route is roughly 45km and both routes are completed in a single day which is followed up with a well earned BBQ and drinks at the finish line!
This is the 2017 route but it changes every year, although it is always Dingle and the surrounding areas. So if you are in Ireland about that time of year and are interested in hill walking then you might like this.
If you are planning a trip to Ireland and have any questions, let me know!xx
