Paraty is a colonial town on Brazil’s Costa Verde between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, first settled by the Portuguese with cobbled streets and buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th century. Paraty is a little slice of heaven and definitely needs to be on your list of places to visit if you are going to Brazil!
Where to stay….
There is no shortage of places to stay in Paraty, I stayed at the Hotel Brunello which is overlooking Jabaquara Beach. It was great, with beautiful view of the beach and the breakfast was lovely too. It was a short drive into the center of town.
What to do….
Unfortunately I was only there for a day and a half but would love to have been there longer! It is such a beautiful place. I would definitely recommend exploring the historic center with it’s cobbled stones, churches, museums and cafes. It has so much charm that you will fall in love with it. We also went on a boat trip which stopped at three beaches, Praia da Lula, Praia Vermelha and Lagoa Azul. We ate on the boat and then we were able to get off and swim or just relax on the huge comfy sun loungers. This is a place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the larger cities.
Hints and tips…..
- If you tend to be bitten by mosquito’s then bring whatever works for you because they are pretty bad here! Especially bad when you are given a citronella plug in and a bug spray when checking in to the hotel!
- Wear comfy shoes ladies!!!The cobblestones give a beautiful effect to the town’s appearance but make it IMPOSSIBLE to walk on in heels.
- If trying to save money then bring your own lunch with you on the boat, the staff are very relaxed.
