Here is part 4 of my trip, the beautiful city of Salzburg Austria. It is birth place of Mozart and home of the Sound of Music.
The weather was a bit mixed, it was raining the first day and sunny the next. While we were there though we spoke to some locals who said that it had been the one of the hottest summers and 40C for most of the summer.
PEOPLE AND FOOD
The people in Salzburg are so friendly! They are some of the most helpful and friendliest people I have ever met. We literally did not meet one single rude person the whole time we were there. The food was lovely too, I had goulash for the first time in a lovely restaurant called Zum Fidelen Affen. We were served by a really great waiter who went by the nickname Cheese and we shared an outdoor table with two ladies which apparently is a common custom in Austria. It was a different style of dining but I liked it for a change and the ladies gave us lots of tips on the best ways to get to Prague from Salzburg.
PLACES TO STAY
We stayed at the Hotel Garni Evido which was a clean, basic hotel and really well located. It was about 5 minutes from the train station and bus stop. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, well located hotel then this one should do the trick.
THINGS TO DO
There are lots of things to do here, we did the Hop on Hop off Sound of Music tour. It stops at the Mirabellplatz, Hanusch-Platz, Schloss Leopoldskron and Schloss Hellbrunn which are all places where the Sound of Music movie was filmed. It is very reasonably priced at €16 and you can choose to listen about the history of Salzburg or the Sound of Music. There are longer Sound of Music tours which take you outside the city, but there are other tours you can do including the Salt Mines, Mozart City Tour and the Ice Caves.
We travelled by train and bus from Salzburg to Prague as it was much faster and cheaper. We got a Westbahn train from Salzburg station to Linz which cost €12.50. We then got the Westbus from Linz HBF to Prague for €26. If you want to have an amazing view of the city then have a drink on the rooftop terrace at the Crown Plaza hotel which is beautiful!
Salzburg is an amazing city with so much to see and do. The people are incredibly friendly and helpful. It is definitely place I would like to revisit especially in winter as I imagine it is even more amazing with snow.
