Corfu – Holiday Review

I know this is another greek island and I will write about the other countries that I’ve been but I have been to Corfu three times and the people are so amazing that I should write about them.

Like Rhodes, Corfu has the same beautiful weather. I went in August every time and it was always in the 40C range. I personally love the heat but again it might not be for everyone. It is pretty difficult to avoid it in august so if you prefer cooler temperatures try going earlier in the summer. I would HIGHLY recommend high SPF and its a great excuse to use that big sun hat that you have always wanted to wear!

The people are unbelievably friendly and so helpful. We stayed with the same family all three times in the Alexis Apartments and they were so welcoming, if there was a family celebration they always included you. The food was typical mix of traditional greek and there was also a Chinese restaurant that we went to quite a few times called Chinatown Sidari. The Panorama Restaurant in Peroulades is a must, it has the most amazing view of the sunset and the food is yummy too. You will need to arrange transport though as it is a little out of the way. The Sunset Restaurant in Sidari is also really great, Spiros and Jane are so lovely.

We stayed in the Alexis Apartment in Sidari and as I’ve said they are so lovely there. Like with much Greek apartments, they are quite basic but you are not going to be spending you holiday in your apartment so it doesn’t need to be plush! It was really close to all the amenities, within walking distance which is just what you need.

Ok there are literally so many things to do here for such a small island! In the 3 years we visited there, we have hired a quad, a moped, a jeep and a boat. If you like to explore then just hire a vehicle and head off. Its pretty much impossible to get lost and there is lots of places to see. Achilleion Palace is beautiful and full of history, the grounds and views are amazing. Corfu town is so beautiful and most definitely worth a visit, you can relax on the Liston and enjoy the view or visit the Palace of St.Michael & St.George which includes the Museum of Asian Art which is lovely or Mon Repos. The Saint Spyridon Church is also worth a visit, its contains beautiful relics and the bell tower is the highest of all the Ionian islands. It is important to remember that the locals are very devout and when visiting any churches or places of worship that you wear the proper attire and cover up. Other places of interest in Corfu town are the Old Fortress and the New Fortress. The Monastery of Myrtiotissa is also beautiful, while Myrtiotissa Beach is idyllic, it is a nudist beach so make sure you are aware of this if you go there. The water park Hydropolis is also great and you can chill out on the lazy river or the wave pool which is AMAZING till you are ready to tackle some more slides. We were based in Sidari and we used Vlasseros travel for all our trips and vehicle hire, Phillip who owns the company is brilliant and so helpful! I would definitely recommend dealing with him! The boat hire can be done at the beach and if you hire a car then you have to take a trip to one of the many vineyards.

For such a small island it packs in a lot to see and do. It is so easy to explore and the people are great. I would have no problem recommending it.

So Happy travelling!xx
